Somewhere In The Vasoline!

Date: August 25, 2012

Chapter: Misnomer

Characters: Amanda, Sophie, Sporkman

Though I've unofficially been updating the comic for the past couple weekends, today marks the first official, scheduled update of Sporkman in quite some time. From this time forth (at least for a while), there'll be a new strip every Saturday, in addition to whatever remastering work I end up doing to the archives.

This particular comic feels like it was a long time coming, as I've long hinted elsewhere that when Sporkman was trapped in the past, he ran into lil' Amanda. I ALMOST told this story in Mary Elizabeth's Sock, but ultimately decided that it had to be done here. If I did this in MESS, I wouldn't be able to reference Sporkman's previous history with the ORIGINAL timeline's Amanda without needlessly confusing the audience.

That said, if you're part of the aforementioned MESS audience just dropping in for the first time, here's the short version of the backstory: once upon a time, Sporkman met an adult, news reporting Amanda in Seattle. They were total BFFs for a while, but then one of Sporkman's enemies set off a time bomb. The time bomb rewrote history without Sporkman in it, so that Amanda never knew he existed. She also ended up being a lot younger for no apparent reason.

As such, this is the first time the Amanda of the current timeline has met Sporkman, though obviously he's already met HER (albeit a different version of her).

Anyway, all that sounds pretty silly. You should just read the Classic Sporkman archives. There's less than two hundred strips, ya slackers.

About The Comic

Classic Sporkman is a comic by Jodie Troutman, beginning in 2004 as a throwaway reboot of the titular character she created in high school. It's extremely silly, frequently stupid, and the comic's creator absolutely loves it. She hopes you do too. For more comics by Jodie, visit longtalljodie.com!
